The 5 Best Baby Jumpers (2017 Guide & Reviews)

Few baby contraptions exist that bring more happiness to your little one than a baby jumper.

Hearing your bundle of joy laugh and shriek with unfettered glee more than makes up for all the sleepless nights and odd clothing stains you’ve accumulated over the past few months.

Like other baby gear, there’s a lot of thought and discernment that must be given before deciding on the best baby jumper for your little tyke. After all, the goal in getting this piece of equipment is to make your baby as happy as possible.

So which one is most likely to do this?

Baby Jumper Reviews

#1. Baby Einstein Activity Jumper

Baby Einstein’s a name that’s become synonymous with happy busy babies, and with good reason. The company’s ability to make stimulating baby toys that are sturdy and can hold up to a baby’s constant play, but are gentle enough to keep the baby from harm.

Stimulation is the name of the game with the Baby Einstein Activity Jumper (click here to check the price on Amazon). Your baby will be surrounded by over a dozen activities once they’re secured. That’s not hyperbole, either – the 360-degree design means your little one is never that far from having his or her mind engaged. Babies will also get a kick out of playing with their favorite Baby Einstein friends as they explore.

There’s an eclectic array of things for your little one to enjoy, too. From simple activities like a spinning rattle drum to an electronic piano that features adjustable volume, bright lights, and language discovery, your baby won’t exactly run out of things to do.

The Baby Einstein Neighborhood Friends also features a seat that easily rotates 360 degrees. This eliminates the worry about your baby struggling to get from one exciting activity to another.

Features for Mom & Dad

It’s quick and easy for parents to adjust the seat on the Baby Einstein Neighborhood Friends. This design is a step up from other jumpers, which tend to be much more stubborn to move.

If you have a couple of little ones in the house, this is a feature that can be pretty important.

Safety

The jumper has a lot going on, but its sturdiness can stand up to whatever your punishment your baby can dish out. You won’t have to worry about your baby playing with a flimsy product. More importantly, you won’t have to worry about having the toy tipping over or the chair swiveling loose as he or she rotates.

Baby Einstein also built the toy to provide a solid measure of comfort. The seat is sufficiently padded and soft, which means your baby’s bottom will be well-protected as he or she goes up and down.

Ease of Cleaning

The seat padding is easy to remove and throw in the wash. The toys are also either made of plastic or easy-to-clean fabric. You don’t have to worry about the toy developing “interesting” odors over time if you clean it routinely.

Ease of Assembly

This does take a little elbow grease to assemble, as it’s not as intuitive to build compared to some of the other jumpers out there on the market. The trade-off here is that when it is assembled, it’s pretty sturdy.

Things to Keep in Mind

Some parents do struggle putting Baby Einstein Neighborhood Friends together, right down to trying to follow the instructions. If you’re not mechanically inclined, this may cause you a lot of frustration.

Some people also point out that the device is pretty bulky, and can take up a considerable amount of space. This could be problematic if you have family or other types of company over.

#2. Evenflo Exersaucer

Evenflo’s Exersaucer (click here to check the price on Amazon) is a favorite among parents, and it certainly was my favorite as well.

This item comes as an Exersaucer, but serves as an activity table (yes, your toddler can sit and walk around it), and also has a play mat (for ages 0-4 months) for tummy time until your baby is ready to test out their jumping legs.

This is great for ensuring you can use this item as your baby grows into toddlerhood.

Toys can remain attached or are able to detach and be played with solo.

In fact, Evenflo prides itself on this product being able to target and achieve at least 10 of your baby’s first major milestones (object recognition, tactile stimulation, etc.).

It has 11 activities that your baby can enjoy and it plays a lot of musical sounds and songs.

Your baby can rock, spin, bounce, and play their day away!

Features for Mom & Dad

This Exersaucer is fully portable, so you can move it from room to room with ease. It can also be folded up, so you can fit it in your car if you wish to travel with it.

I also found it easy to store in case I wanted to put it away if we were having company over.

Out of many bouncers on the market, this one is significantly smaller and less bulky, but certainly large enough for your baby to enjoy.

Safety

The Exersaucer has three height positions, so it can grow with your baby (up to about 24 months). Plus, its seat is able to lock in a few different ways.

The bouncer is sturdy, so you don’t have to worry about it tipping over. Just be sure to only use it according to its height restriction (30 inches).

It is a much safer alternative to a walker, because your baby is stationary at all times, yet still able to “move.”

Ease of Cleaning

The majority of the Exersaucer is plastic, so it's easy to wipe down and sanitize without staining.

It has a removeable, machine-washable seat, so you can conquer any spit up or other bodily fluids in a flash.

Evenflo recommends it should be machine washed and air dried to maintain its form and fit.

Ease of Assembly

The Exersaucer only comes in a few pieces and they are easy to attach together (took us less than 10 minutes).

You do need a screwdriver to attach some pieces, so be sure to have one on hand.

Things to Keep in Mind

Some parents feel that there are too many toys associated with this Exersaucer, leaving their baby feeling overstimulated.

Others stated they didn’t get much use out of the play mat, and some who did use the mat felt that it should have been textured or more stimulating.

Some other parents felt that their toddlers were not “into” playing with it as an activity center as they outgrew the jumper part because they played with it and all its toys so much as a baby.

#3. Fisher-Price Rainforest Jumperoo

My other favorite baby jumper is the totally adorable and popular Jumperoo from Fisher-Price (click here to check the price on Amazon).

This Jumperoo has a lot of great features for your baby. Its seat rotates 360 degrees, so your little one can turn all about, interacting from every angle.

It has a plastic platform that has five toys set up, and the toys are able to light up, play music, and be put into motion by your child.

Among the toys are favorite animals like an elephant, a monkey, a parrot, and a tiger (just to name a few).

This Jumperoo also has a textured teether which is attached to the side.

As your baby grows, you can adjust the height to best meet their needs and the safety standards.

Little ones also get encouraged to move and jump because they get rewarded with sounds and lights.

It holds up to 25 pounds, so your baby should be able to use it up to their first birthday or so.

Like the Evenflo Exersaucer, this Jumperoo fosters and encourages healthy development in babies. Large motor skill and small motor skills get developed through moving, spinning, and jumping, but also with its textures, colors, and grasping discoveries.

It also can develop cause and effect skills, as well as eye-hand coordination.

Features for Mom & Dad

I love that the item is quick and easy to take down if you need to (for company or travel purposes).

Its frame pivots to a lower position, allowing it to be tucked under the bed, couch, or in your car trunk.

It is also portable so it can be moved anywhere.

Plus, it’s not overly heavy, so you are able to move it on your own without help.

Safety

The Rainforest Jumperoo is very safe for your baby (who can sit or stand, based on their mood).

It’s very steady and sturdy, so you don’t have to worry about it tipping when your baby is in full fledge jump mode.

It also features a seat with soft spring covers that keep little fingers safe from getting pinched and a three-position height adjustment for the right fit (which is most important in regards to safety).

Ease of Cleaning

The pieces of this Jumperoo are plastic, so they can easily be sprayed or wiped down as often as needed.

And, the fabric seat cover can be removed so you can toss it in the washer (just air dry it) and wipe underneath in case any kind of yucky stuff or snacks get smooshed under there.

Ease of Assembly

The Jumperoo takes about ten minutes to put together—just be sure to put all batteries in each little part before assembling it.

Otherwise you will be removing them just to add the batteries and it will just take more time!

Things to Keep in Mind

Most parents who have used this Jumperoo really liked it, but do have some criticisms. I guess the biggest one is that their baby gets limited use out of it.

Parents can only put their babies in it up to 25 pounds, so they may only get several months of use (since most babies don’t go into a jumper until about 4-5 months old).

The jumper also doesn’t include any extra items, like a play mat, and it isn’t able to convert into a toddler play table.

Other parents remark that they had to keep a very close eye on their little jumpers because their hand got stuck in the side of the seat in between jumps.

While I used my own jumper a lot to get things done, my son was never really out of sight, so this was never a major concern for me (nor did I experience this).

#4. Jolly Jumper on a Stand

The Jolly Jumper on a Stand (click here to check the price on Amazon) is a popular item amongst parents that want a no-frills jumper free from distractions. There are no activity centers, no flashing lights, no noisemaking devices. All you have is a jumper, a support apparatus, and a happy, giggling baby.

This jumper is designed to help teach your baby to strengthen muscles and to refine his or her newfound coordination. It can also help your baby develop a sense of balance – a critical element for any baby to work on.

The jumper’s design also provides your baby with firm spinal support during the “jumping” session. This support is critical because it helps to foster proper development of your baby’s bones, and it will also help him or her retain upright posture.

Considering how rapidly a baby’s body can develop during this stage, these aspects can be extremely critical.

Features for Mom & Dad

The Jolly Jumper on a Stand isn’t heavy at all, checking in at around 11 pounds. Its light frame and simple design makes it very portable. You won’t have to be confined to the same room when it comes time to watch your baby frolic in the jumper.

Because there are no “whistles and bells” tied to the jumper, your baby will be naturally focused on doing nothing but jumping. This can translate to your baby easily burning off energy, which could be a boon in helping him or her fall asleep at the appropriate time when the device is properly deployed.

Safety

There are two straps that connect to the Jolly Jumper on a Stand. This provides an all-important sense of focused up and down direction to your baby’s bouncing session. You won’t have to worry about your little tyke accidentally swinging off to the side and inadvertently bashing into something.

The harness apparatus itself is designed to be comfortable for your baby. You won’t have to worry about the device gradually irritating your bundle over the course of multiple sessions.

Ease of Cleaning

There’s not much surface area to the Jolly Jumper on a Stand. You just have to worry about wiping down poles and the harness.

The poles are plastic and free of fabric, too. You won’t have to worry about the device accumulating any weird odors over time.

Ease of Assembly

Because of the Jolly Jumper on a Stand’s simple, minimal design, it’s a snap to assemble. Most people will be able to put the device together in under 10 minutes.

If you’re especially handy, you can also disassemble the jumper relatively quickly. That way, you can take the contraption with you when it’s time for your baby to visit grandma and grandpa.

Things to Keep in Mind

Some parents are concerned with the Jolly Jumper on a Stand’s size. Even though there’s not much to the jumper, it does take up a chunk of room when it’s fully built out.

Another concern is the device’s weight limit. The maximum weight the jumper can hold is 28 pounds, which means that your baby could grow out of it quicker than you may anticipate. This is especially the case if your baby is falling in the higher percentiles.

#5. Graco Doorway Bumper Jumper

Graco is a well-respected brand in the baby product universe, which automatically gives their Doorway Bumper Jumper (click here to check the price on Amazon) some cachet. While the brand associated with this doorway baby jumper may catch your eye, a lot of the product’s details may keep your attention.

Like the name suggests, the Graco Doorway Bumper Jumper comes equipped with a playful jungle motif. This gives the device a playful aesthetic that may naturally engage your baby.

The jumping unit is not solely built for jumping, either. The device comes with two soft, removable, interactive toys that are attached the adjustable play rings.

This level of multi-tasking engagement isn’t just limited to the jumper’s own toys. There’s a toy tray built into the contraption, so your baby can bring his or her favorite toys along for the ride.

Features for Mom & Dad

The sturdy clamp that anchors the Graco Doorway Bumper Jumper is easy to secure on practically any doorway. Wherever you need to be at in the house, the jumper can easily follow.

The jumper also doesn’t take up a whole lot of space, unlike other bulky jumpers that need a wider surface area to spread out. This could be an important feature if you’re constantly having family or other company over.

Safety

Even though the Graco Doorway Bumper Jumper is attached by one cord, the jumper does have plenty of safety features that allow you to use the device with confidence. The jumper’s sturdy spring and hidden safety cord combine to keep your baby secure.

What’s more, the width of the jumper’s toy tray acts as a buffer of sorts against doorways. If your baby starts swinging from side to side, he or she will not hit the wall.

Ease of Cleaning

The jumper’s seat pad is removable and machine washable, so cleaning up after your baby is a snap. The rest of the device is pretty easy to wipe down, as well.

Ease of Assembly

There’s not a whole lot of assembly required to using the device. Its simple design makes it easy to set up and take down.

The clamp that secures the device in your doorway is also easy to fasten. What’s more, it’s designed to be gentle on your door frame, so you won’t have to worry about it leaving a nasty mark over time.

Things to Keep in Mind

Some people do point out that adjusting the device for size is difficult. Part of the reason for this is because the instruction manual isn’t as intuitive as other jumpers.

Other people note that the jumper has a limited weight capacity. This means your baby may outgrow the device quicker than you’d prefer.

Main differences between the Exersaucer and Jumperoo.

Both the Exersaucer and Jumperoo foster developmental skills, have bright colors, cheerful and interesting sounds (or lights), and encourage safe and stationary play.

But, a Jumperoo is mainly used for a limited time (based on weight restrictions) and for the purpose solely of jumping (it has a lot more spring action).

An Exersaucer is more of an enclosed play station. A baby can still move, jump, and spin, but not as high and they are also able to rock from side to side (unlike a jumper).

Also, most Exersaucers are able to turn into tables or play areas for toddler play when they get too old or too big to be placed in a contained space (so in my opinion, you get much more for your money).

The basic functions of a baby jumper

At first glance, a baby jumper may appear to be nothing more than a conduit to make your baby happy and content. However, this device isn’t just designed to bring smiles to your little bundle.

A good baby jumper is an underrated teaching tool that helps babies learn how to use their still-developing leg muscles. Its design and functionality is chiefly predicated on the fact that babies will use their toes to push off the ground from a seated position.

Of course, babies won’t realize that the baby jumper is providing a teachable moment. To them, they’ll think of it has a fun activity that helps them burn off energy. From a parent’s perspective, this expulsion of energy will happen in a relatively worry-free manner, which can be a sweet relief.

Baby jumper myths.

It’s important that, as you go looking for a baby jumper, you don’t do so with the mindset that it’s going to accelerate your baby’s developmental process. While there seems to be a prevailing thought that using a baby jumper can encourage babies to learn to walk sooner, this is not the case.

It can be argued that the genesis of this myth is rooted in a bit of a misunderstanding. A baby jumper can help babies learn how to use their leg muscles, but this knowledge doesn’t correlate with natural development.

In fact, there are some organizations that believe jumpers do more harm than good to a baby’s growth. This mindset has made the use of the contraption somewhat controversial, although it is ultimately a decision that must be weighed and made by the parent.

Using a baby jumper.

Putting a baby jumper to use isn’t as simple as setting up the device and securing your baby in the seat. There are several things that you must keep in mind before, during, and after your baby uses the device.

First, your baby has to be the right age to use the jumper. The general rule of thumb here is that if your baby can support his or her head unassisted, then he or she is old enough to use the jumper. With that being said, this doesn’t give you free reign to ignore any age or weight minimums on the jumper’s box – they’re there for a reason.

Also, don’t plan on making the jumper a long-term entertainment solution. Experts and physicians recommend that you limit your baby’s time to just 20 minutes of baby jumper usage per day. These experts also suggest this time be broken up into supervised segments.

Parental benefits of a baby jumper.

One of the things that may make a quality baby jumper attractive to you, the parent, is that it can be used as an effective means to tire your little tyke out. Even if you’re limiting usage to small bursts that total up to 20 minutes a day, the fact that this activity is still driven by energy expulsion will still tire your baby out. This can be a good thing.

It can also give you a break – with a few caveats in place. Yes, you’ll still have to supervise and engage with your baby, but once they get the hang of how the jumper works, they’ll be the source of their own entertainment. You get to sit back, take a breath, and watch your baby experience joy – something that will give you glee in the process.

What to look for in a good baby jumper.

You may be initially overwhelmed when you start your initial search for a baby jumper. However, you can make things a touch easier for yourself by distilling some of the noise into a few basic elements to keep an eye out for as you shop. These elements include:

  • Weight limit. Like we mentioned earlier, the weight minimum that is printed on the jumper’s box is something that shouldn’t be ignored. Doing so may result in an injury to your baby, which should never be something you’re okay with potentially happening. These weights vary from product to product, so pay attention.
  • Seat style. There should be certain features you should look for when it comes to this important component. Ideally, you’ll want a jumper that has a removable, washable seat that can be adjusted for height. You’ll also want the seat to be lined with plush padding to give your baby added comfort.
  • Suspension. This is the most important component of a baby jumper, because it provides your baby with maximum stability. A good jumper will have two or more elastic straps to keep your baby from going anywhere except up or down. A single strap will cause the baby to swing left and right, which could lead to an injury.
  • Adjustability. Your baby is obviously not going to stay the same size. As such, you should get a device that will “grow” in kind with your baby. Doing so will help your baby retain maximum comfort as he or she continues to use the device.
  • Storage. Since you won’t constantly be using this device – at least, you shouldn’t be – you’re going to make sure you get a jumper that can be stored easily when not in use. Some jumpers can be disassembled after use if you find yourself to be short on space.
  • Toy options. Jumpers will most likely come equipped with several attached toys to further keep your baby entertained. This is important to pay attention for your sake and your baby’s, since some of these gadgets can make sounds or flash lights.

Keeping things safe.

Regardless of what baby jumper you purchase, it’s important that you follow some important safety guidelines to maximize your baby’s protection. Most of these safety measures boil down to simply having common sense and sharp parental instincts.

For instance, you should never put a jumper near hazardous areas like stairs or a pool, and you should make sure the jumper is on a level surface free from sharp, pointy objects. You should also never leave your baby in the jumper unsupervised, nor should you leave the baby in the device if it has to be moved even slightly. And stop using the device once your baby outgrows it.

Like we mentioned earlier, the use of baby jumpers is not without its controversy. Some parents swear by the contraption, saying it’s a terrific conduit for baby happiness. Others strongly urge to skip its usage altogether.

Should you fall into the camp that has no issues with baby jumpers, we’re here to lend you a hand.

Above, you can find our picks for the top baby jumpers on the market; while each of these reviews highlight the various plusses and minuses that exist with each product, the decision on which one to buy rests in your capable hands.

Wrapping up

We like the Baby Einstein Neighborhood Friends because it gives your baby a complete jumper experience. It has a solid weight limit, sturdy suspension, and is comfy for your little tyke. What’s more, the abundance of toy options attached to the jumper will keep your baby engaged and stimulated throughout each session.

Overall, the Baby Einstein Neighborhood Friends is a superior jumper because it’s so much more than a jumper. It’s a device that contributes to many facets to your baby’s development. And you really can’t ask for much more than that from a baby toy.
